Chris Sutton called out the normally outspoken Steven Gerrard for his silence in recent weeks as everything seems to be crumbling around him at Ibrox.

We are living in weird times right now. With the season suspended right now, all the noise coming out of Ibrox seems to be aimed at somehow getting the season declared ‘null and void’. Yet Steven Gerrard, who has the most to say normally, has remained silent amidst all the hoopla. In fact, Dave King walking out of Ibrox could not break his silence.

For the uninitiated, it was Dave King that brought the Liverpool legend to Ibrox and provided him huge funds to build the Rangers side. And despite his failure to justify those investments by winning silverware, it has always appeared that King always had Gerrard’s back. Thus, it goes without saying how his exit could send alarm bells ringing in the manager’s mind.

Thus, Gerrard’s silence regarding the matter has been questioned by Chris Sutton, who rarely leaves an oppurtunity to poke at the Bears. As reported by The Scottish Sun he said:

"“It wasn’t a time for Dave King to socially distance himself from the club. Rangers Football Club need leadership at this moment in these uncertain times.“And I suppose Dave King leaving begs the question: ‘What about Steven Gerrard’s future now as Rangers manager?’“Dave King was the guy who brought Steven Gerrard to the football club. Steven Gerrard trusted Dave King implicitly. So, maybe it’s about time that Steven Gerard came out and made a statement just to calm the waters at Rangers at this moment in time.”"

We might have a clue why Gerrard does not want to speak about the ‘null and void’ agenda. Liverpool sit in a similar position to Celtic right now at the top of the Premier League table. And if he does call out for things to be cancelled, it will make him immensely unpopular with the Anfield crowd who would be robbed of their first title in thirty years.

Let’s be honest, the Rangers job has always been a stepping stone for him as he hopes to manage his beloved Liverpool one day in the near future. Why he has not spoken about Dave King’s departure is anybody’s guess at this point.

Probably seeing his side fall 13 points behind Celtic after those wild celebrations at Parkhead is haunting him. As we all know, Mr. Gerrard has a penchant for letting things slip.
