Aberdeen manager calls out Rangers fans live on air
By Kade Kistner
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes took to the media to discuss how the season should end while also calling out Rangers fans and their agenda.
With the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus, most sports leagues around the world have come to a screeching halt. In the beginning, most clubs stayed silent hoping a resolution would appear quickly. Now that it hasn’t, more and more clubs are speaking up (except for Rangers).
Most recently, Aberdeen skipper Derek McInnes took to the airwaves to talk about the crisis, as well as discuss how best to end the season. His response was fairly simple and hinged on one theme- common sense.
Derek McInnes wants the season to be played out in full, behind closed doors if that’s what gets the job done. But, just like other leagues and club leaders are now realizing, that may no longer be possible. Therefore, common sense must prevail in getting the season to its conclusion.
Speaking to BBC Sportsound and transcribed by Record Sport, he is what Derek McInnes had to say about the situation:
"“If there’s a way this can be finished, we need to not give up on that too soon.“That is the hope, but we’re all realistic enough to know that, as the weeks go by, it’s becoming less likely.“Ultimately, that decision will have to be made if this is going to continue as long as expected.“If Rangers and Celtic were closer to each other it’d be an even tougher decision.“I think the likelihood is Celtic would go on and win the league.“I think maybe that decision – if we can’t get the league finished – is, unless you’re a Rangers supporter, might be easier to deal with and see a lot of common sense in that.”"
Well, if that isn’t the truth? Celtic being declared the champions would by and far be the most common sense course of action. Of course, Rangers will cry foul and still continue to push for ‘null and void’ even at the detriment of their own club.
At the end of the day, clubs need to see a conclusion to the season, and need to get their payments. Enough of the loafing around and threat making by UEFA.
