The highly-rated Celtic coach has been offered the chance to be a part of new Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny’s backroom staff.

The season is suspended at the moment due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus. Despite having a 13-point lead at the top of the Premiership table, Celtic fans are worried about the fate of the league title as nothing is clear right now.

But even in these uncertain times Damien Duff has been offered a role in newly-appointed Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny’s backroom staff. Duff had joined Celtic in early 2019 as the reserve team manager and was soon promoted to a role with the first-team after the arrival of Neil Lennon. He is going to join the international side on the 1st of August.

Celtic fans have nothing to be scared though because Duff will carry on in his role as Neil Lennon’s number three. And the move will only benefit the Hoops as experience on the international level will only make him a better coach, and one day he might even take over as the manager at Parkhead. Who knows?

Gary Owens, the interim chief executive of Football Association of Ireland, appears very happy with the move. As reported by the Glasgow Times, he said:

"“The calibre of Stephen Kenny’s backroom team is top class and these are great additions to our senior team coaching staff.“Keith and Damien served Ireland so well as players and their experience will be such an addition to our senior squad’s support team.”"

It is no surprise that Duff has been offered the role with the Republic of Ireland. He has been very impressive during his time as a coach at Parkhead. And the fact that he has a 100 international caps for them was always going to make him a prime candidate.
