Celtic fans reacted in hilarious fashion to Dave King walking out of Rangers while the club continue to struggle to stay in business.

Celtic were set to win a record-equaling ninth straight Scottish league title when the football season had to be suspended due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus. As things stand, Celtic are 13 points above the Rangers in the Premiership table with just 8 games left to be played although Steven Gerrard’s side have an extra game in hand.

The Ibrox side have off-field issues to worry about at the moment as well though. The club has continued to post huge losses over the last few years and it looks like it is finally catching up with them. If rumours are to be believed that they need £10 million just to finish this season. And now with the season suspended, there is even further financial strain on them.

Earlier there were reports that £20 million was set to be invested into the club by Stuart Gibson. Those rumours have died down since then and one can’t help but question there was to them in the first place. One thing that is for sure though is that Rangers need some investment to stay afloat and quickly.

As a result, Dave King could not have picked a worse time to walk out of the club. It almost feels like a captain abandoning a ship that he knows is doomed to sink. As reported by STV, he said about his exit:

"“I thank all of my colleagues for the time and effort they continue to devote to our club – particularly when they are all dealing with their own family and business concerns arising from the virus.“It is unfortunate that my stepping down has coincided with the crisis but I am relieved that our club has such stalwarts in place to deal with whatever comes our way.“I considered the possibility of extending my time as chairman until the virus crisis is over but that is not practically possible.“After I returned to South Africa last week from the board meeting, I was mandated by the South African authorities to go into self-isolation for 14 days – which I am presently undergoing.”"

As you would expect, Celtic fans had a great time at the expense of the departing Rangers chairman:

Dave King’s reign at Ibrox were certainly happy times for Celtic. They won trophies left, right and centre. And one cannot blame Celtic fans if they really are ‘sad’ to see him walk away.
