Rangers fans might not be as eager to get the season cancelled following the revelation that they are set to be ripped off in such a circumstance.
The future of the football season has been put into doubt after leagues all around the world were forced to be suspended indefinitely because of the global outbreak of the coronavirus. And while the entire world has bigger problems at this moment, many Rangers fans have used this opportunity to call for the league to be cancelled and declared ‘null and void’.
Safety of the players is the biggest concern that they have raised to back their claims but then what’s stopping them from resuming the season whenever things are back to normal. Obviously it will be easier to complete a season that has already been played out for over 6 months than to start with a completely new one.
Their intentions are absolutely see-through to be honest. After weeks of calling for Steven Gerrard to be sacked following a bad patch of form that saw them fall 13 points behind Celtic in the Premiership, it looks like there title hopes have been magically rejuvenated since the suspension of the league and they are pretending that handing Celtic the title would be some sort of injustice.
A huge concern with their ‘null and void’ demands though is the huge financial repercussions that it would have. Clubs will be liable to pay the season ticket holders their money back and broadcasters will demand compensation as well. In case of the Rangers though, things appear to be a little different.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rangers season ticket holders will not get anything back even if the season is cancelled midway:
"Rangers season ticket holders however, the club state that they will not be held liable in the event that games are cancelled. The Ibrox club’s season ticket terms and conditions for this season state: “The club, in conjunction with the relevant football authorities, reserve the right to alter the published date and/or kick-off time of any fixture at any time.“The club cannot accept any liability for any expense incurred even in the event that the match is cancelled.”"
The club certainly every penny possible to keep the lights on at Ibrox in these trying financial times. It will be interesting to see now how their fans react to this recent revelation though.
