Despite the football world being on hold, there are new reports that Celtic has made quite the offer to Atletico Madrid for one of their youngsters.

Celtic is always interested and is always in the hunt for new, and young talent. Just because the football world is on hold due to the novel coronavirus doesn’t mean the Hoops’ long term goals and workings change.

Now, according to Record Sport, the Hoops are in on Atletico Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme. At 19-years old, he is a promising striker who could fill in well if say, Odsonne Edouard were to see his early exit from the club this summer. However, the timing is odd.

As Celts Are Here has pointed out, the timing seems a bit off, and the need for another striker is really not there. Odsonne Edouard is expected to stay on at least another year. Leigh Griffiths has seen an amazing type of renaissance, and Patryk Klimala was just brought in this winter.

As Record Sport pointed out, the Hoops are “readying” a big economic offer. Somehow, this all seems a bit contrived, but it is worth at least having a discussion about. Rodrigo Riquelme could potentially add some serious star power to the squad. If he is having a hard time breaking onto the first squad at Atletico Madrid, he may not mind a move to a club, like Celtic, where he could find an abundance of playing time.

Again, this all hinges on whether or not these ‘rumours’ are actually true, and if they are, who would be moving over to make room for a new striker. Interesting times lie ahead for this club and all of football. We will admit, it seems awfully strange to be talking about transfers when this season has yet to find its conclusion.
