The Celtic striker has made a surprising admission about Neil Lennon after finding his form back since returning from the winter break.
With the global outbreak of the coronavirus, football has been suspended indefinitely. As things stand, Celtic sit 13 points ahead of second-placed Rangers. But with dark clouds hanging over the immediate future, it is hard to tell whether the Hoops will ultimately end up lifting nine-in-a-row despite their performances justifying crowning them champions if the season cannot be resumed in time.
The suspension of the football season could not have come at a worse time for Leigh Griffiths. After spending the past couple of seasons struggling with both on and off-field issues, the Scottish striker had looked like a man reborn since returning from Celtic’s winter break training camp in Dubai.
In just 11 starts since the winter break, Griffiths has found the back of the net a stellar 8 times. And he scored a hat-trick against St Mirren in what looked like a warning to Rangers before the Glasgow Derby. Unfortunately, that game could not be played due to the coronavirus and now nobody is sure when things will return to normal with countries all around the world struggling to contain the virus.
One would think that Lennon would have had a huge part to play in Griffiths’ revival after it had looked like his Parkhead career was over when the club signed Patryk Klimala in the January transfer window. But according to Leigh Griffiths, that is not the case.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic striker said:
"“The manager hasn’t had to say much to me. I know I can get a bit leaner and fitter, so I’m working on that now.“You never want to be told that you need to be a bit sharper but if you have been told something and the coaches can see room for improvement, you have to get that done.“Seeing the improvement in all the different areas means more positivity, so it gives you extra motivation to keep working hard.”"
There are much more important things to worry about at the moment than football. But still it is good to see Griffiths finally back in form and enjoying himself. He has been through a lot over the past few years. Hopefully, things can return to normal as soon as possible so we can see him back on the pitch banging in goals.
