There has been huge speculation of late as to how the SPFL season will end. Now, a Manchester United legend has his say on what should happen with Celtic.

With the novel coronavirus halting the entire world, including football, it is leaving quite a bit of time for people to speculate what happens next in sports. Every major sporting league has been suspended, or cancelled, and it is leaving a lot of questions in its aftermath.

As most Celtic fans are doing, we are still wondering what will ‘officially’ happen with the season. While speculation ranges from the resuming of the season all the way to the ‘null and void’ narrative, the truth is, no one knows yet.

However, Manchester United legend and now pundit, Darren Fletcher has put his two-cents into the arena. Fletcher has made a Celtic title claim that we think most Hoops fans can more than get behind as he back Hoops manager Neil Lennon.

Speaking with the BBC, and transcribed by 67 Hail Hail, Darren Fletcher gives his thoughts:

"“I totally agree that the league should be finished.“But the eventually of an Armageddon and it doesn’t finish then Celtic would rightly be declared champions because of their points total [and] how much they are ahead.“I can see where Neil Lennon’s [coming from], and we spoke about it before, every club is going to be biased towards whatever situation they are in. No matter what league and no matter what position. We should respect any decision that is made, but the chances of that happening are very slim because there are going to be court cases and arguments.“They have got big things like history being made. Celtic are on the verge of nine in a row for the third time ever. And potentially carrying that into next season for the first-ever team to win 10 in a row that’s all the conversations that are going on right now.“Rangers next season, off the back of Celtic this season potentially winning nine, next season is like one of the biggest seasons in Scottish football history.”"

The reality of it is this: the season needs a definitive direction, whether it be a cancellation, or simple indefinite suspension with the promise it will continue. One thing must be taken into consideration though, and that is smaller clubs with limited revenue. Or clubs that need the revenue desperately from the season and league payouts (Rangers, looking at you).

With much of the season played, and Celtic so far ahead in the standings, it would be just to name them the champions, and set the focus on next season if the season truly is over.
