After much speculation as to what will happen with the remainder of the SPFL season, one insider gives us a glimpse into the conversation.
Well over two-thirds of the Scottish Premiership League season has already been played out, and Celtic sit a commanding 13-points atop the table. Now there is speculation as to what the league will do in regards to playing it out or canceling the season ‘null and void’.
Officials were meeting at Hampden today to speak about what the next steps forward will be. The novel coronavirus has brought a halt to all major sports across the globe, and Scotland and its football are no different.
But what happens if the season is just cancelled? The amount of revenue lost by not just the clubs, but also the broadcasters will be felt. People depend on the football season for jobs, and these are decisions that cannot be made lightly.
But there is some good news in all of this, even if it just a sliver. According to SportsMail, a Hampden insider has given the season being declared null and void a ‘zero chance’. So somebody will be declared a winner.
It also states that relegation and promotion issues will be ‘settled’ that way ‘cash-strapped’ clubs can be issued the prize money for their finish. This is quite the quagmire facing not just Scottish football but for all of the major sports leagues across the globe.
Here is to hoping that something fair and just will be decided upon.
