Rangers fans had a meltdown after the recent revelation that Boris Johnson was set to declare the 2019/20 season over and crown Celtic as champions.

The global outbreak of coronavirus has resulted in football leagues being suspended all around Europe. And while the most of them have been postponed for a couple of weeks or so at the moment, with countries like Italy and Spain in lockdown, it will be a miracle if football is back anytime soon. In fact, there are fears that it could take months to combat this virus and as a result, the season might have to be scrapped to be altogether.

And while there are much more important things than football at the moment, a lot of Celtic fans are worried how this could affect the outcome of the Premiership title. Celtic have already played 30 games in the league this season and currently sit 13 points ahead of second-placed Rangers.

Some Rangers fans though seem to be of the opinion that the entire season should be ‘null and void’ if it cannot be completed. In fact some of them are so desperate that they want it to be announced immediately, even before anything is clear regarding how long it will us to find a solution to this coronavirus problem.

Although, it should not come as a surprise that they do not have much faith in their of turning things around. As a result, they are happy with taking the route pushing this ‘null and void’ narrative and pretend that the Hoops were just slightly ahead of them when in fact they have a 13-point mountain to climb.

But there are a lot of complications in declaring a season void. First of all, season ticket holders could ask for a refund and broadcasters might want their money back on the same grounds. And now a report from The Scottish Sun claims that Boris Johnson is set to intervene and declare the season over. As a result, Celtic will be declared as champions and Hearts will be eliminated.

Regarding the matter Hamilton vice-chairman, Les Gray said:

"“I don’t think the season can ever be made null and void.“After 30 games, if you make the season null and void — season-ticket holders are entitled to their money back for a start.“The broadcaster could say the season never happened and want their money back.“From a financial perspective you can’t make the season void, what you can do is look at what alternatives there are.”"

As expected, Rangers fans have not taken the blow too well and had a meltdown on Twitter:

While this is not the best way to do things and all of us would like to see all the games being played, the fact of the matter is that we have never faced anything like this before on a global scale. Thus, when things return to normal, if the solution is to declare this season as over without all the games played then that will have to be done.

There is no way a season that has been played out for more than 80% can be just declared ‘null and void’. Rangers fans losing their minds over it just provides some good entertainment in the midst of terrible times.
