Former Celtic star tells Rangers how to stop 10-in-a-row
Rangers have received some advice on how to stop Celtic from winning a historical 10-in-a-row next season from an unlikely source – a former Hoop!
It is without doubt the biggest rivalry in all of Scottish football and one of the fiercest in the world. No matter what your thoughts on this recent reincarnation of the Rangers, the fact remains that Celtic fans do not like them one bit better than they did before their liquidation in 2012.
Thus, it is very surprising to see former Celtic striker, Charlie Nicholas, advising the Rangers on how to stop his former side from winning a historical tenth straight league title next season. Although after admitting that the current title race was already done and dusted.
The Sky Sports man provided a very detailed plan to those at Rangers, one which included the sale of Alfredo Morelos, the arrival of a new striker worth more than £10-million, a summer spending spree and the fact that Steven Gerrard will still be in the Ibrox dugout next season.
As reported by Daily Record, the former Celtic striker wrote in his Express column:
"“This season’s title race is over – and Celtic will go on to secure the Holy Grail of 10-in-a-row unless Rangers sell Alfredo Morelos. I know nobody at Ibrox will publicly write off the current Premiership campaign but it was finished even before Rangers dropped more points at St Johnstone on Sunday.“If Rangers are serious about stopping their rivals next season then their summer transfer dealings will be key. Steven Gerrard is not going anywhere. He will still be in the Ibrox dugout next season and will be ready to take up the fight again.“But he has a big job on his hands and the Light Blues must cash in on Morelos and use the money to strengthen their team. Morelos is also expendable and that is why I would cash in. If Rangers are offered £20million for the Colombian they should accept it.“It will be difficult for the club to find a better all-round striker than Morelos unless they are prepared to cough up £10m or £12m but they can get someone who will score just as many goals, but without the disciplinary baggage.”"
Now the Hoops will not just sit there and watch the ‘broke’ Rangers splash cash in the summer, especially not when they have about £40-million in the bank themselves and a chance to achieve something that has never been done before and will probably never be match again.
Charlie Nicholas came through the Celtic youth ranks and then spent nine seasons at the club in two separate spells. During his time playing in the Hoops, he scored 127 goals, won three trophies and was even named the Scottish PFA Player of the Year in 1983 after an incredible season in which he scored a remarkable 48 times!
For a man with so much history with Celtic, his recent stance towards the club has been surprising to say the least. He came in hot water earlier this season with his comments about Odsonne Edouard and risks burning all bridges with the fans if he continues in this manner for much longer.
