Champions recognise champions. And there seems to be no doubt regarding where the newly-crowned WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury’s loyalties lie.

It looks like Tyson Fury has great taste in football clubs judging by the pictures that have emerged of him recently, wearing a Celtic shirt as well as a scarf. It should not come as a huge surprise though considering the WBC and Lineal Heavyweight Champion’s heritage.

Although born in Manchester, Fury belongs to an Irish travelling family. And that’s where his nickname ‘Gypsy King’ comes from. His ancestry can be traced back to Galway and Belfast, although he was prevented from Boxing for Ireland because he was not born there. A decision that might very well have cost the country a gold medal in the Olympics.

Recently, a couple of pictures circulated around social media of Fury wearing a Celtic shirt in one and also donning a Hoops scarf in another. Judging by the gear and his full (or maybe not) head of hair though, they look to be almost a decade old:

A truly inspirational figure, what Tyson Fury has gone through before returning to the top of the boxing world is absolutely bonkers. After conquering the heavyweight division by beating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, he went into depression and was stripped off all his belts. What followed was a nearly three-year long nightmare where he ended up ballooning to 400 pounds and self-admittedly suicidal.

He managed to clear up his act though and returned to action in June of 2018 and would take on Deontay Wilder later that year. And in what can be only termed as a robbery, the fight was adjudged to be a draw despite a masterful performance from the Gypsy King. Thankfully, a second bout was booked between the two consensus best Heavyweights on the planet and Fury completely dominated the American before his corner threw in the towel in the 7th round.

There are a lot of things to like about Fury. The fact that he is a Celtic fan is just one of them. There’s only one Tyson Fury!
