Celtic fans had more things to enjoy as a result of Rangers 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock than just going 10 points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

It has certainly been a enjoyable last few weeks for Celtic fans. While the Hoops have continued to ruthlessly win games, the main reason for their happiness is surely the disastrous form that the Rangers have showcased since returning from the winter break.

Steven Gerrard’s side’s form has completely fallen off a cliff over the last month or so. In the last 5 Premiership games, they have managed just 7 points. That is unacceptable for a team whose fans were convinced that the title was in the bag just a few weeks ago.

To be fair, their fans cannot be blamed for getting their hopes up. After all, Rangers had managed to beat Celtic in their own backyard for the first time since 2010. Combine that with their dominant performance earlier at Hampden Park in the Scottish League Cup final and it did actually look like they were going to challenge the Hoops for the title this season.

As it turns out, it looks like that was just a false dawn as the team has completely crumbled under the pressure after the winter break, not dissimilar to what happened last season as well. And with each point dropped, the reality of the situation is setting in among the Rangers faithful.

At least that was the case for Rangers legend Barry Ferguson. He wrote in his column in the Daily Record:

"“I’ll be honest. I got a new TV for my birthday and there were moments the other night when I was so angry I thought I was going to rip it off the wall.“At one point I had to stop myself from throwing one of my flip flops through the screen. I just wanted to be out there at Rugby Park helping to do something about it before it was too late.”"

Guess we’ve come a long way since their claims of walking their way to the Premiership title.
