Rangers boss Steven Gerrard responds to the Sky Sports interview with Alfredo Morelos that falsely accused Celtic supporters of racism.

Celtic has been dealing with recent controversy surrounding an interview that Sky Sports conducted with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos. During the interview, the Colombian striker spoke strictly in Spanish and as such Sky Sports translated the interview to help convey the message.

Except they didn’t. Instead, the subtitles were mistranslated by Sky Sports in the publicly aired interview that showed Alfredo Morelos calling out Celtic and its supporters for “racist” behaviour. Instead, Celtic was never mentioned, and now a public controversy is currently playing out for all to see. Get caught up on that here.

While at first Rangers and company did nothing to set the record straight, and they may have even leaned into the press a bit, that narrative has quickly been changed in light of the controversy.

Speaking to The Sun after Wednesday evening’s match against Hibernian, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard commented on the ongoing issue:

"“Of course. They’ve said sorry to both clubs and to the player. So we move on from the situation. It’s not on my mind right now. I’m still in the game, if you like.”"

It is not much, but clearly Steven Gerrard wants to stay as far away from the issue as possible. While the interview, who was centered around his problematic striker, has only caused issues for Celtic, who were never even mentioned.

It really does raise the question at why, and who translated the interview. Is there some secret anti-Celtic agenda afoot? While it is best not to speculate until all the information has been released, it does make one wonder why Sky Sports acted the way they did, and to what benefit does this possibly have for Rangers?
