Celtic have just recently released a second new statement in regards to Sky Sports, after their unfathomable error during Alfredo Morelos’ interview.

Celtic F.C. and its supporters were recently called out for “racism” that was apparently directed at Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos. These accusations came out during an interview that Sky Sports conducted with the Colombian striker less than a week ago.

Sky Sports aired the interview using subtitles since Alfredo Morelos spoke in Spanish during the interview. The subtitles suggested that racist actions and words have been flung towards Morelos, and these subtitles suggested that it was Morelos who was making these claims.

However, it soon came to light that the translations were at best misleading, and at worst, a hit job on Celtic and its supporters. In a time where “fake news” and media distrust is at an all time high, the Hoops found this unacceptable.

Sky Sports subsequently tore the interview down off of its sites, which could suggest culpability in the matter. Nearly a day later, Sky Sports issued a statement of “apology and correction”. However, they failed to address Celtic’s main concern: how did this happen in the first place?

Now, we have arrived to the next chapter: Celtic’s second statement to Sky Sports. It was released on February 6th, and you can read it here. Paraphrased, it once again questions Sky Sports’ process in which the interview was conducted and subsequently aired. It also aptly calls out Sky Sports for such a devastating mistake on such an important topic such as racism.

Celtic is not lying down and taking this one. For all the things the club does that fans may not disagree with, we must also praise them when they do something right. This is the right thing to do, and Sky Sports needs to give an answer into how something this devastatingly false could have ever been produced and aired.
