Alfredo Morelos’ explosive Sky Sports interview accusing Celtic fans of racism towards him was mistranslated after all.

Alfredo Morelos is a man who has a hard time staying out of the spotlight. Whether that is by design or how things work out for the Colombian is a discussion for a different day. But on this occasion, he was the one being misunderstood by the Celtic fans for no fault of his own.

Morelos gave an interview with Sky Sports recently and it was a weird one to say the least. The interviewer spoke in English and the Rangers striker replied in fluent Spanish accompanied by subtitles for the viewers.

During the interview it looked like the Colombian was accusing the Celtic fans of racially abusing him. The first question being raised here is the fact that how a man who does not even understand English could pick up racial abuses hurled at him in Scottish accents!

The whole deal smelled fishy to say the least and as it turns out, rightfully so. Sky Sports had actually mistranslated the interview and have since pulled out the interview on those grounds.

A Celtic fan account did take the time to translate Morelos’ comments from Spanish to English and it does paint a very different picture of the Colombian. The Twitter account named Celticalicante translates:

"“There are lots of racist acts against me. In Aberdeen they even slagged my mummy. They’ve slagged me, they’ve thrown coins at me, they throw all sorts of stuff at me when I score goals away from home. But It’s not a problem. I’m a guy who just gets on with it and I don’t pay any attention, because it’s my job and my passion to score goals and I know that the away fans won’t like that.ARE YOU AT ALL WORRIED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY?I don’t know what they want to do, I don’t know what they were going to do, what they managed to do, and what would have happened if I hadn’t spotted the guy at my car, so I’m kind of, what’s going on, unnerved, but thank God I spotted the guy and thank God it’s being investigated.IT WON’T DRIVE YOU OUT, ALFREDO?No, no, but I’ll just have to be careful with everything”."

And while we at The Celtic Bhoys are no experts in Spanish, to us this appears to be a clear case of the media trying to grab some headlines by some classic manipulation. Unfortunately, in this day and age, that sort of thing has become much harder and ended up with the broadcaster being left red-faced.
