Here’s the latest from Celtic as the clock quickly ticks down on the deadline day of the January transfer window.

A number of players have been linked with Celtic in this January transfer window although till now the club have managed to bring in only Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro. With time quickly running out, rumours have run rampant on deadline day as clubs around Europe look to improve their squad at the last possible moment.

Victor Wanyama is someone who has been continuously linked with Celtic over the past two transfer windows. By now it is pretty clear that the Kenyan is available on the market after being frozen out at Tottenham Hotspur. And there have been conflicting reports today regarding Celtic’s plans for him. But at the moment there does not seem to be much hope of the midfielder returning to Parkhead before the window closes.

Filip Benkovic is another star who was linked with a return to Celtic this January. The defender spent the last season on loan at Celtic and did quite well. This season he has failed to make much of an impact at Leicester City, managing a solitary appearance in the FA Cup and seems to be back on the market available for loan. But it seems the Hoops have decided against any move for Benkovic.

One position that Celtic could do some strengthening in is winger. The club have let go of Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan, and currently seem short of options with both Johnston and Elyounoussi out injured. And multiple sources linked the club with a move for Newcastle United’s Christian AtsuBut even that move seems to be dead in the water now. Jordan Rhodes has been touted as another possible late transfer.

It is safe to say that the fans will be dissappointed with the complacency that the board have shown in this window, especially with nine-in-a-row hanging in the balance.
