With Celtic sitting at 24th in the Europa League, one would imagine that the Hoops would do everything possible to strengthen their squad before the final group phase game against FC Utrecht. Yet, just like the Champions League qualifiers in the summer, the board have left the manager with very little to work with.
To be honest, this feels like a winnable game with FC Utrecht in the middle of an awful run of form. They have lost five straight. But then again, this feels like a typical European game in which Celtic could slip up.
Speaking of slipping up, that is exactly what the club's social media team did when announcing the starting line-up for the game against FC Utrecht. Somehow, Cameron Carter-Vickers was included in it.
Of course, it was an error, albeit one that would leave the fans scratching their heads. No, Carter-Vickers has not made a miracle recovery in time to face FC Utrecht. In fact, he might not even play again this season.
'World class in everything' - Celtic fans react to error before FC Utrecht game
Of course, a lot of fans decided to have a bit of fun before the game, at the expense of the social media team and their horror mistake. As one wrote: "World class in everything we do."
Another said: "I’d still rather an injured CCV over who’s playing."
Well, unfortunately, Carter-Vickers won't be in the heart of defence for Celtic's game against FC Utrecht. Auston Trusty and Liam Scales will be the ones in that area of the pitch.
A lot has been made of the fact that both of them are left-footed and that causes some issues when it comes to building out from the back. That being said, one cannot deny that the results have been pretty solid defensively under the management of O'Neill.
