Over the past several weeks, we have seen Celtic being linked with a long list of players. Pretty much every day, a new name or two cropped up in the rumour mill for a while. But considering the lack of activity from the Scottish champions, even that has slowed down lately. One thing is for sure though, the Hoops need to move quickly if they want to bring in a few fresh faces in time for the Champions League qualifiers.

A lot of Celtic fans are uncertain about the centre-back situation at the club, despite the recent arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester City. They want a more experienced option to be brought in, that can actually be a long-term partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of Celtic's defence.

So, it remains to be seen if Celtic will try to sign a centre-back this summer or not. One of the players they have been linked with does seem open to the idea of a move in this window though, which could make things a bit easier.

According to the Daily Record, reports in France suggest that Celtic have joined Anderlecht and Besiktas in the race to Le Havre defender Etienne Youte. Further, the player said while speaking to Paris Normadie:

"I know now that I have to be patient before making a decision. For the moment, I'm here and I feel good within this group. I'm preparing for the season.

"If there are interesting offers for me and for the club, we will find an agreement together."

Signing a centre-back would have to be considered a coup for Celtic. But at this point in time, there are other areas, where they need to strengthen more urgently.

One of them is winger. Nicolas Kuhn left earlier in the summer and has not been replaced so far. On the other hand, Jota is out injured for the rest of the year.

Celtic also need to bring in another striker. They never really replaced Kyogo and Adam Idah's lack of form in recent times has been a major cause for worry.

So, one would expect Celtic to take a look at those areas first before going after a defender. Let's see how it all plays out.
