There are a number of areas where Celtic need to strengthen in the ongoing January transfer window and it is a shame that only one addition has been made to the squad so far. Martin O'Neill deserves a ton of credit for answering the call in an hour of need for the second time this season. That being said, he needs to be given a lot more backing than he is getting at this point in time.

Centre-back is another position where the Hoops could do with more options. They have brought back Stephen Welsh in the winter after his excellent loan spell. But it looks like the Hoops could be looking to make another addition if possible.

One of the players they have been linked with recently is Aurele Amenda. The Swiss international is not starting for Eintracht Frankfurt at the moment.

Rumours have suggested that he is looking towards the exit door, amid interest from Celtic, who are believed to be considering a loan offer. And there is some good news for the Hoops' chances of getting a deal done.

As reported by Sport Witness, Amenda's agent, Jose Noguera Rodriguez, confirmed the player’s camp will evaluate options this month, as he said while speaking to Absolut Fußball:

"In January, we’ll examine all the options that are best for his sporting development. Should an opportunity arise where Aurele gets the playing time he deserves, we will seriously consider it. Until then, he will continue to give his all for Eintracht and behave professionally. Aurele is grateful for the opportunity in Frankfurt, but his career is at a crucial juncture where decisions need to be made."

It remains to be seen if Celtic will be successful in getting a deal done for the centre-back or not. But it is a positive that it looks like he is eager to make a move away this month. That should help them if things get close.

Of course, the Hoops will need to find an agreement with the German club as well. And that could prove to be the difficult part.
