It's like he never left. Let's be honest, most of us never thought we would ever see Martin O'Neill in the Celtic dugout again. Anything can happen in football though. And while the circumstances surrounding his return are far from ideal, it was good to see him back regardless. Fortunately, the Bhoys put in a performance worthy of the occasion.

For the first time in months, Celtic played like they should. The kind of football that fans enjoy, whether it be those in the stadiums or sitting in front of a television screen.

It is safe to say that Brendan Rodgers achieved a lot during his time at Celtic. But oftentimes, the football was not great. It was a lot of side and backways passing, biding the time, trying to find an opportunity. This felt like more of a throwback. Pure football on the front foot.

Perhaps a lot of it has to do with our nostalgia-tinted glasses. But we enjoyed that game for sure. And so did a large section of the fanbase, who have not been satisfied for months now.

As one Celtic fan wrote about the display from the Bhoys: "Absolute breath of fresh air watching that. We are actually attacking at pace here, we are so back."

Another said: "No slow build up back back side side stuff, enjoyed watching for a change. Mon is back."

O'Neill is certainly back. And if Celtic can continue playing this type of football, we would not mind having him in the Parkhead hot seat a little while longer.

Let's be honest, O'Neill is not the long-term solution. He is 73 years of age and this was his first game as a manager since 2019. It is more than likely that he does not even want to do the job for months. But it is good to see that he can still get a result out of his teams. It should give the Hoops a chance to take their time with the managerial search.
