Wilfried Nancy has emerged as the clear frontrunner to get the Celtic job. The timing remains unclear but the club are believed to have gotten permission to speak directly with the French manager. Of course, that does not guarantee that he will end up in the Parkhead hot seat. Just ask the Rangers about Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat.
There is a high probability that Nancy will be the next Celtic manager though. Speculation is rarely this strong, and coming from so many reliable sources, unless there is something genuine going on in the background.
It will be equally important for the club to back their next manager with the right signings as well. And if Nancy is that man, an Uruguayan international could be the perfect fit for that role.
As reported by the Daily Record, Nancy could come with his own targets ready. Columbus Crew's star man Diego Rossi might be one.
Uruguayan international tipped to be Celtic's first Wilfried Nancy signing
Rossi scored a combined 40 goals over the past two seasons for Columbus Crew. Nancy helped revive his career in many ways after the Uruguayan international struggled at Fenerbahce.
Rossi is a very versatile player. He played as a forward in all three of Columbus Crew's most recent playoff games. But for the majority of the season, he played as a number 10 or on the flanks.
Of course, Celtic could do with reinforcements in all those positions, especially if Daizen Maeda ends up leaving in the January window after seeing a move away being blocked in the summer. Now, it remains to be seen how things will play out.
Someone like Rossi could prove to be a decent signing for Celtic for sure. That being said, his past failure in Europe will raise some question marks as well.
