It would be safe to say that Sebastian Tounekti's early form for Celtic had faded away by the time he left to take part in AFCON for the Tunisian national team. The winger had been signed on deadline day and put in some impressive displays early on for Brendan Rodgers' side. Many fans started to believe that he was the solution, or at least the part of it, to the club's problems.
Unfortunately, it was not long before Tounekti was struggling to put in similar displays. His numbers were never particularly impressive to begin with.
He was not helped by the constant changing of managers. Wilfried Nancy came in and decided to play him at wing-back, a role that clearly does not seem to suit him.
Tounekti has reminded the fans of what he is capable of away on international duty though. He was brought on as a sub in his national team's match up against Nigeria. They were trailing by 3-0 at one point but were able to mount somewhat of a comeback and it ended 3-2 on the day. In the aftermath, the Celtic winger was being hailed as the best performer for his side, and many fans felt he should have been brought on earlier than he was.
'Tounekti to Liverpool' - Celtic player puts in brilliant performance
So much so that fans of some European giants seem to have taken notice of the winger. One wrote: "Sebastian Tounekti to Liverpool, who says no?"
Well, it would be safe to say that Celtic fans will be happy to see Tounekti doing well. It would be a benefit to everybody if he returns from AFCON a man in form.
That being said, one has to add that the manager needs to find the right role for him. Otherwise, it might never work out for him at Celtic Park.
