Celtic look set to get a fresh opportunity to sign long term target Gvidas Gineitis. The Hoops came up short with their offers during the summer transfer window, even making a late push just before the UEFA squad deadline.
The Hoops had made progress with their talks with Torino but ultimately came up short of their valuation, leading to the talks collapsing in the late stages.
That has proven to be a significant problem for Celtic, who have a major gap in the middle of the pitch, keeping in mind Arne Engels left the club and wasn't properly replaced.
Gineitis could have been an ideal replacement, but Celtic were reluctant to pay what they felt was over the odds for players throughout the summer, and their stingy approach saw them either miss out on a number of targets or bring them in much later than planned.
But as far as Gineitis goes, there could be fresh hope ahead of the winter January transfer window, when Celtic will surely know they are going to need to add that all-important holding midfielder.
Journalist Ekrem Konour has posted on X: "Torino ready to part ways with Gvidas Gineitis; January exit possible. Wants move to another club. Celtic - Summer bids rejected as demands not met. Could play in Europe if joining Glasgow giants."
The question will be whether Celtic are willing to close the gap between what they are willing to pay and what Torino are willing to sell for during the winter window, and as the old saying goes, nothing changes if nothing changes. If one of those two things doesn't happen, a deal is not likely to be done.
In the meantime, Gineitis has largely remained a starter for Torino, but he did get dragged off at half-time during Monday's 2-0 defeat to AS Roma.
