It would be an understatement to say that Celtic fans are waiting for the club to make some quality additions to the squad this summer. Kieran Tierney has been brought in as a free agent after a six-year run at Arsenal while Benjamin Nygren seems like a pretty good addition as well, based on his early performances in the green-and-white jersey. Other than that, there are serious doubts about whether any of the Hoops' recent signings will have an impact on the first team.
There are clearly areas still in need of strengthening though. And supporters are unhappy that not enough has been done to ensure that before their Champions League qualifying play-off round tie against Kairat Almaty.
Brendan Rodgers has always insisted that work is being done behind the scenes on getting deals over the line. And hopefully, we will see something substantial happen pretty soon.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are working on bringing in a winger, centre-back, and a striker before the close of the summer transfer window. Rodgers is targeting these three positions specifically.
Three transfer signings Celtic are working on named
All three are clearly areas of need. Jota is out injured for the remainder of the year while the club never replaced Nicolas Kuhn, even though it has been weeks since he joined Como. Luis Palma has also left and Marco Tilio is expected to, if or when the Hoops can sign another winger or two.
As for a striker, once again, the club have not replaced Kyogo, who left in January. And it is very clear that Adam Idah is not ready to lead the line for the Hoops at the moment and is struggling in that role. Celtic have made signings there. But are Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand the answer to their problems up top?
Then let's come to centre-back. An addition has been made there, with Jahmai Simpson-Pusey coming in on loan from Man City. But is he ready to push for a starting spot at this point in his career? Also, the 19-year-old is only on a season-long loan without any option in the deal and is not a long-term solution. So, it would be worth pursuing the signature of a more experienced defender they can sign permanently this summer.
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves though. There have been plenty of transfer rumours throughout the summer but not a lot significant has actually happened.
