The Russell Martin era was historically bad for the Rangers and they showed him the exit door after 123 days. He has been replaced by Danny Rohl after they were turned down by both Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat. And the way things have begun, this could quickly turn into another failure for the Ibrox club. As for Celtic fans, they have been left laughing once again.
It was not the most comfortable night for Celtic in the Europa League but they did manage to end on a high note with a 2-1 win against Sturm Graz. Goals from Liam Scales and Benjamin Nygren gave Brendan Rodgers' side the much-needed three points and a confidence booster.
On the other hand, there was no new manager bounce for the Rangers. Rohl seems to have picked up right where Martin left off. And that is clearly not a good thing.
A lot of Rangers fans would not have heard of Brann before drawing them in the Europa League this season and understandably so. They are not the biggest names in European football. A 3-0 defeat will make sure that they do remember them.
'They have broken me' - Rangers fans react to Danny Rohl's debut
It is safe to say that a large section of Rangers fans are unhappy after this defeat in Rohl's debut. One wrote: "They have broken me. I’ve never seen anything like it."
The new manager bounce that they would have been hoping for, thanks to the arrival of Rohl, is clearly nowhere to be seen. As one of their supporters pointed out: "Was expecting at least some sort of new manager bounce. But nothing!! Nada!!"
Of course, there are also those who think that no manager would be able to get the best out of this team, as one wrote: "Sir Alex would struggle to motivate some of these guys."
It is safe to say that the Rohl era at Ibrox has gotten off to the worst start possible. The German was lauded for his pragmatic approach during his time at Sheffield Wednesday, making the most of what was available to him. Let's see if he can do that with the Rangers.
He might now have a much better idea of what he is working with. This simply does not look like a good enough team at the moment. Gerrard and Muscat might have been smart to turn the opportunity down.
