Celtic will be looking to strengthen their squad further in the upcoming summer transfer window. At least, that is what fans are hoping for. Brendan Rodgers deserves to be backed after guiding the Hoops to their most successful Champions League campaign in years and taking Bayern Munich to their limit over two legs despite having a team built on a fraction of their transfer budget.

On the other hand, there are quite a few players who could be on their way out of Celtic in the summer. Gustaf Lagerbielke is someone whose future needs to be decided soon.

Lagerbielke is currently out on loan at FC Twente. The Swedish centre-back has been doing well with the Dutch club and naturally, there are calls for him to be signed on a permanent basis.

FC Twente do not have a buyout clause in the loan deal though. That means that if they want to sign Lagerbielke on a permanent basis, they will need to agree a transfer fee with Celtic.

Sporting director makes claim about signing forgotten Celtic player

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, FC Twente’s sporting director Jan Streuer told ESPN’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie:

"We’ll have to wait and see. It’s also important what Celtic wants.

“Do they want to keep him? Do they see it in him or not?

“For us, he is a good player. He has a good mentality and is a good header. He is getting better and better.

“But you have no idea what Celtic wants. Do they have good players there? Maybe they want to loan him out for another year. We have to wait and see."

Well, judging from the comments, it looks like Celtic have not made a decision about the Swedish player's future yet. He is doing well away on loan at the moment and that is a positive without a doubt.

Considering the form that Lagerbielke is showing at FC Twente, he is only increasing his transfer valuation while away on loan from Celtic, like Alexandro Bernabei did in Brazil. It remains to be seen how he finishes this campaign but if it is a strong one, the Hoops should not face any problems in finding him a new home while bringing in a decent fee at the same time as well.
