Celtic are closing in on another domestic treble and all of the focus is on that at the moment. The League Cup is already in the bag while they are also in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they will be taking on St Johnstone. When it comes to the Premiership, the Hoops need to win just three of their remaining seven games to guarantee themselves the title, which will be their fourth on the trot.
Of course, domestic success is great and has been everpresent for Celtic in recent years. But one cannot overlook the positive steps that they have taken in Europe this season as well.
They made it to the knockout phase of the Champions League for the first time in over a decade. And while they lost their tie against Bayern Munich, they took the Bavarian giants to their limit and were seconds away from taking the fixture into extra-time before an equaliser from Alphonso Davies at Allianz Arena.
In the future, Celtic's hopes of going further in Europe have been boosted. As reported by Sky Sports, all Scottish Premiership clubs playing in European play-off round fixtures next season will be able to request the postponement of one specific league match. This new policy has been approved by the SPFL Board.
SPFL make decision to hand major boost to Celtic
Of course, Celtic will need to do a lot of work to get to the play-off round fixtures in the future. One cannot ignore the fact that they were handed a good draw this season.
Also, Celtic won't be handed an automatic spot in the Champions League next season, even if they win the league this time around. Instead, they will have to qualify for the competition, something that has proven tricky for them in recent years.
In the long run, this is a great decision on the part of the SPFL though. And it is something that will help clubs like Celtic do better in Europe. At least it gives them a better chance.
