There is little as to who the majority of the Celtic fanbase want to replace Brendan Rodgers as the manager of the club. Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney have been put in interim charge for the time being until a permanent solution is found. One would hope that this search does not stretch for too long. The January transfer window is vital if the Hoops are to have any hope of turning the campaign around.

Postecoglou would be perfect for Celtic. He is a proven success at Parkhead, plays a brand of football that the fans love and perhaps most importantly, he is capable of finding quality players while working within the self-imposed budget constraints at Parkhead.

Fortunately, Postecoglou is available at the moment. It was merely a week ago that Nottingham Forest sacked the Australian, just 39 days into his run at the club.

But the question is, are Celtic actually looking to bring back Postecoglou? And if they are, is the Australian interested in a return to Parkhead, or management at all, so soon after being sacked twice in quick succession?

The latest update on the situation will come as a blow to many fans. As reported by talkSPORT, sources close to Postecoglou have downplayed a return to Parkhead.

That is a worry for sure. But at the same time, it is not hard to understand why Postecoglou might be looking to take some time away from top-level management.

Also, he might be careful about taking up the wrong job. He has been sacked twice within the space of months. The Australian cannot afford another mistake straight after that. But with the squad that Celtic have right now, there is no guarantee that even Postecoglou could salvage this season.

Postecoglou will be aware that links with Celtic will always exist because of how successful his first run was. Even if he were to be interested in a return, is this the right time for him to make it?

If not Postecoglou, then who? Kieran McKenna is someone who has been linked with the job lately but is not the kind of name that will fill the supporters with confidence about what he would bring to the table, despite his undeniable success at Ipswich Town, having helped them go from the third division to the Premier League not too long ago.
