Celtic are heading towards an important January transfer window. It is a chance for them to strengthen their squad a bit. It could help them keep up their performances in domestic competitions, where they are undefeated so far this season. There is also a genuine chance of them making it to the playoff phase of the Champions League but for that, they will need to finish strong.
On the other hand, there are a few players who could leave as well, whether on loan or on a permanent basis. Especially those who are not getting enough playing time at the moment.
One name that seems to fall under that category right now is Stephen Welsh. The Celtic academy graduate had shown a ton of promise in the months following Brendan Rodgers' return but has slipped down the pecking order since then and is barely getting any game time.
As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, KV Mechelen have made a loan offer for Welsh. The Belgian Pro League side want the player to join in January until the end of the season. It’s understood that he is keen to get regular first-team football and the Hoops are willing to listen to offers.
Sky Sports man confirms offer to sign Celtic player
Welsh is not getting enough playing time at the moment. And with the options that Celtic have right now, they do not really need him as a cover option either.
So, it might be best for both parties to part ways. Welsh has drawn interest from all over Europe in previous transfer windows.
But with the little football that he has played in recent years, it might prove difficult to find him a home right now. So, a loan move might be a help in making that happen, if he impresses.
