Celtic need a striker following the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes in the ongoing winter transfer window. The Japanese international had been the first-choice number 9 for the Hoops for the previous three and a half seasons. During that period of time, scored 85 goals in total. They came in cup finals, derbies and important Champions League contests, helping the Glasgow giants to 8 trophies.

It is safe to say that replacing Kyogo won't be an easy task. There is the possibility that Daizen Maeda could play as a striker moving forward.

That is not an unfamiliar role to Maeda even though he has rarely played as a striker for Celtic. He has featured as a forward for the Japan national team and found great success at Yokohama F. Marinos while doing the same.

Adam Idah's recent brace against Aston Villa in the Champions League to end a 14-game goalless run is a cause for optimism as well. But most Celtic fans would like to see the club bring in another striker before the winter transfer window slams shut.

As reported by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks with Brondby over a possible deal for Mathias Kvistgaarden. It’s understood that the Danish club are holding out for a record fee in excess of £10 million.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kvistgaarden. He has been linked with a move to Celtic for a few years now and it is believed that the club have tried to sign him in the past on more than occasion without success.

Kvistgaarden has been on a good run in front of goal this season. He has scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 15 league appearances in the ongoing campaign.

There are similarities between his style of play and that of Kyogo as well. So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might view him as a possible replacement for the Japanese striker who found so much success while playing for the Hoops.
