Recently, the Rangers' takeover was announced. Now, it looks like the Ibrox club are on the verge of appointing their next manager as well as they look to catch up with Celtic moving forward. Of course, Brendan Rodgers has outlasted a fair share of them over his two stints at Parkhead and is now set to learn the identity of his new challenger.
Steven Gerrard turned down the chance to return to Ibrox not too long ago. And it looks like Davide Ancelotti is not going to end up in the Rangers job either.
As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers are closing in on appointing Russell Martin as their new manager. They had spoken to both Gerrard and Ancelotti during the search.
Martin built up a decent reputation for himself down south. But is he ready to manage the pressure that comes with coaching the Rangers? Especially if you don't win trophies, which has been the case more often than not in recent years.
Sky Sports confirm major Rangers news that will interest Celtic
Martin has managed teams like MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton. He was sacked by the latter in December and is now on the verge of a return to management with the Rangers.
Of course, he has done well in the lower divisions in England. But is he up to the task when it comes to managing a team like the Rangers at the top level. That is a transition that not many are able to make.
The Rangers' recent record with managers should worry Martin coming into the job. They have sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Mick Beale and Philippe Clement in consecutive seasons. Barry Ferguson was also not handed the permanent job after guiding them to away victories against Celtic and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
Of course, Celtic fans won't be worried by the appointment of Martin. On the other hand, the Rangers supporters will know that the club cannot afford get this wrong once again, building up further pressure on the incoming manager.
