After losing against FC Midtjylland in a one-sided contest, Celtic have a lot of work to do if they are to get their Europa League campaign back on track. After how well they did in the Champions League in the previous season, many had been hoping to get a guaranteed spot to the next round. But now, even making it to the knockouts would have to be seen in a positive.
Standing in their way next are Feyenoord. The Dutch side have faced Celtic on a few occasions lately. Their last contest ended in a win for the Hoops, 2-1 at home. But then, the Scottish champions' last visit to De Kuip saw them lost 2-0 and they were shown a couple of red cards on that night as well.
A lot has changed since then. And it is worth mentioning that Feyenoord are not entering this game in good form either. They have lost thrice on the trot and four out of their last five games. This is a team that is struggling right now and looking for a result.
Celtic have found some form since Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney took interim charge of the team. But that does not mean that they are out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. So, this is an important game for both these teams.
Sky Sports confirm double boost for Celtic before Feyenoord game
Fortunately, the Scottish giants have been handed a boost heading into the matchup. As reported by Sky Sports, Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi are back training with Celtic ahead of Thursday night's game against Feyenoord.
Both could prove to be important returns for Celtic, if they are fit to face the Dutch team this week. They are two positions where the Hoops have no depth.
Kieran Tierney is the only option at left-back despite his history of injuries. And Johnny Kenny is the only striker available.
