After weeks of speculation around a variety of names, it looks like there is finally a clear favourite for the Celtic job. And it is one that had been doing the rounds for the past few days. Wilfried Nancy is leading the race to be in the Parkhead hot seat. Of course, that is a possibility that has divided the fanbase. At a time when the club need the supporters back on board, it might prove to be a risky move.
Do not get us wrong, it is very impressive what Nancy has achieved at Columbus Crew. He has won a couple of trophies and delivered consistent results.
Will that translate to the Scottish game though? Nancy has no experience managing in Europe. On top of that, he would have to deal with the unique pressure of football in Glasgow, where you are expected to win pretty much every match you take part in.
As reported by Sky Sports, if Nancy and Celtic can agree terms, the Scottish champions will have to officially approach Columbus Crew in order to discuss compensation. The Hoops' aim is to have a new manager in charge for their game at St Mirren next weekend.
Sky Sports confirm when Celtic want new manager as Wilfried Nancy talks advance
Unless Celtic are willing to continue with Martin O'Neill until the end of the season, they must bring in a manager before the January transfer window and then use it to rebuild the squad in his vision. Now, it remains to be seen whether they are able to get everything in place for Nancy to be brought in.
It does look like he is the clear frontrunner for the job and there are no other contenders for it. Pretty much everybody has been ruled out for one reason or another.
Of course, many Celtic fans will raise doubts if the club ultimately end up making the appointment. Let's just hope it all works out in the end.
