Where is Celtic's search for a striker headed at the moment? We do not know, to be very honest. The club have been linked with a variety of options over the last few days and it is hard to determine which of those rumours are serious, and which ones are completely off the mark. One thing is for clear though, Martin O'Neill wants additions as soon as possible, which has been made obvious by his recent comments in the media.

Even coming into the January transfer window, it was very clear that Celtic needed to bring in new players and fast. Unfortunately, the club do not seem very capable when it comes to their recruitment process these days.

At Ibrox, the triple signings of Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chukuwani and Tuur Rommens were unveiled. On the other hand, the only player Celtic have been successful in bringing to Parkhead this month is Julian Araujo, who is on loan until the end of the season from Bournemouth.

Now, the newest player on Celtic's radar has been named. And it is a striker from Premier League side Leeds United.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic have explored the conditions of a potential deal for Joel Piroe. The Scottish champions have held exploratory talks to gauge the player's interest in a move.

Piroe is someone who has proven himself as a consistent goalscorer at the Championship level. But we have seen him struggle in top divisions over the years. This season, he has been goalless in 10 Premier League appearances, although 203 minutes is not nearly enough to judge a striker. In the past, he has scored 3 times in 29 Eredivisie games.

Of course, one cannot overlook the 49ers' presence at Leeds United. That could make any move complicated at this point, especially with the title race so close. So, it would be a bit of a surprise if this ends up happening, to be very honest.
