It came as somewhat of a surprise when Steven Gerrard decided to turn down the chance to manage the Rangers for a second time. He was believed as the favourite for the job and even interviewed for it, reportedly on more than one occasion. Within a week, it looks like a second manager has now rejected the opportunity to sit on the Ibrox hot seat, despite not having a job right now, leaving the Celtic fans laughing.
When Gerrard rejected the Rangers job, Danny Rohl was quickly placed as the favourite. Now, that option is gone as well because the German coach does not seem to be interested either.
As reported by Sky Sports, Rohl has told Rangers that he doesn't wish to continue in the process of becoming their head coach. He had held conversations with the club's hierarchy last week and had impressed but is no longer in the race for the job.
This is certainly interesting. In some ways, Gerrard's reluctance to return now made sense. But Rohl is a young coach who has only managed Sheffield Wednesday in the past. Let's take our Celtic caps for a moment. It is safe to say that the Rangers job is a high-profile one. If you succeed, it can be a major stepping stone. So, what are these coaches, who have not even managed at the top level before, being presented with that is leading them to reject the chance?
Sky Sports confirm another manager has rejected Rangers, Celtic fans react
This is not a good look for the Rangers, that is for sure. As one Celtic supporter wrote: "Can’t even get the managers they don’t want."
It is safe to say that most Rangers fans did not even want Rohl to get the job. The fact that he has turned the club down should be a very worrying sign for them.
It looks like Kevin Muscat is now the firm favourite to get it. But considering how things are going, do not be surprised if he rejects it as well.
