The season is in the history books. Overall, it was a positive one for Celtic as they added two more trophies to their cabinet, winning a fourth consecutive Premiership title as well as the League Cup. But a defeat in the Scottish Cup final in the last game of the campaign did leave a bad taste in the mouths of the fans going into the summer and now, the aim has to be to improve Brendan Rodgers' squad in this transfer window and go for a treble.

Signing some quality players will be important. That has been acknowledged by Rodgers in the media as well. But at the same time, the club also need to keep hold of their core.

Arguably, Celtic's two most important players this season were Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn. The former finished it with 33 goals and 12 assists while the latter had 21 goals and 15 assists.

Both have been linked with exits this summer. On the other hand, as reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are expected to open new contract talks with Maeda and Kuhn to offer them improved terms in the hope that they will stay.

Both Maeda and Kuhn are vital parts of this Celtic team. But unfortunately, neither was able to make the difference in the Scottish Cup final.

Maeda seemed to lose his golden touch in the last few games of the campaign. At one point, it had looked like he was on course for a 40-goal campaign. But it was not to be.

On the other hand, Kuhn looked off-colour in the second half of the season. He will need to be a lot more consistent if he wants to succeed at the Premier League level.

Staying at Celtic might be the best step for both of these players at this moment. For Maeda, leaving might be risky with the World Cup coming up. Just look at how things have turned out for Kyogo at Rennes. For Kuhn, working another season with Rodgers might help him improve his game further and get him ready for the next step. Right now, it does not feel like he is quite there yet.
