Let's be honest, nobody expected to see Martin O'Neill to take charge of Celtic again. It had been two decades since he had left the club and he had not even managed in six years. For all intents and purposes, he was retired and had transitioned into a role in the media. But with Brendan Rodgers resigning in the middle of the season, the club found themselves in a difficult position and the legend answered the call in an hour of need.
Many had thought that even O'Neill was not capable of getting a tune out of this team and this spell was only going to hurt his legacy at the club, especially in the eyes of those who had not witnessed his first run. But it has had the opposite effect.
O'Neill has won five out of the six games in charge of Celtic, including a cup semi-final Glasgow Derby at Hampden Park and an away game in Europe against a formidable Feyenoord side. In the process, the younger generation has gotten to enjoy some of the magic of the Northern Irish manager, who has been a breath of fresh air during a difficul time for the Hoops as a whole.
Now, the time might have come to say goodbye once again though. This weekend's away game against Hibernian is widely expected to be his last one in charge of Celtic, with Wilfried Nancy on the verge of being appointed the permanent manager.
SFA make Celtic vs Hibernian official announcement
The Scottish FA have announced the officials for that game. Nick Walsh will the referee on the day and will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane and Frank Connor. Grant Irvine will be on VAR duty with Ross Hardie as his assistant.
Like we always say, it is best if we do not have to talk about the officials after the match. The game should be decided by the players on the pitch, not bad decisions.
It remains to be seen how Celtic will do away at Easter Road. But if this is indeed O'Neill's last match, let's hope he gets a big win as a parting gift.
