A number of Celtic players are on their way out this summer. Scott Bain was the first to depart, followed by Greg Taylor and Daniel Cummings. Maik Nawrocki has joined Hannover 96 on a loan deal with an option to buy included, while Nicolas Kuhn and Gustaf Lagerbielke are both set for permanent exits soon.

Now, it looks like another Celtic player could be on his way out. And once again, it is someone you would expect to head for the exit door.

As reported by CeltsAreHere, Stephen Welsh could be on the move this summer. KV Mechelen are showing serious interest in signing the Celtic defender following his loan spell last season. Impressed by the Scottish centre-back, they are now weighing up a permanent deal to take him to Belgium.

Welsh clearly does not have much of a future at Celtic, even though centre-back remains a problem position for Brendan Rodgers. As a result, a move away to a club where he will get regular first-team football could be the right career step for the youth academy graduate.

'Serious interest' - Another Celtic player tipped to leave

Welsh played most of his first-team football for Celtic during the 20/21 campaign, when nothing went their way. Since then, he has never really gotten consistent chances for the Hoops.

First, he had found himself behind Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers for the entirety of Ange Postecoglou's run as Celtic manager. Early on in Rodgers' second stint, it had looked like Welsh could be in the fold and was even handed a long-term extension.

But then, he suffered an injury at the worst possible time. When he returned, the Celtic team was somewhat settled and Rodgers had found the players he preferred. So, there was little scope for Welsh to break into the first-team picture.
