The English transfer window has already closed. Fortunately, Celtic have a few more hours. But having failed to get deals done in months, one has to wonder how much the club will be able to do on deadline day. While the club have already sanctioned the exit of Adam Idah, they were unable to sign Kasper Dolberg.
Once again, Celtic allowed things to drag on and made multiple failed bids for the player. That allowed Ajax to swoop in on deadline day, and now, it is the Dutch club who are on the verge of signing Dolberg while the Hoops have been left scrambling for alternatives.
Most Celtic fans would have been happy if the club signed Dolberg. He is a proven goalscorer in multiple leagues. Right now, the strikers being linked with the Hoops have nowhere near that level of pedigree.
Unfortunately, the Dolberg move is not the only one that has collapsed for Celtic on this deadline day either. There is a second one as well, as things have gone from bad to worse.
Second Celtic transfer collapses after Kasper Dolberg
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Birmingham City’s £3m deal for Hyunjun Yang has collapsed. It’s understood that the club were unable to complete the transfer before 7pm. The player had travelled to England to prepare for the move and is now due to head back to Glasgow.
So, Yang looks set to remain at Celtic. One also has to wonder what kind of an impact this will have on their plans for the remainder of this window.
Coming into deadline day, the belief was that the club were looking to sign a couple of wingers. But with the Yang exit not taking place, as had been expected, it is very possible that the Hoops will only want one more now.
