There are a number of positions where Celtic need to strengthen this summer. Winger and striker are definite areas in need of reinforcements. One would like to see a backup for Kieran Tierney being brought in as well, largely owing to his injury history. But Brendan Rodgers might be eyeing up Liam Scales for that role.
Celtic continue to be linked with midfielders as well though. That is arguably their strongest area, following the addition of Benjamin Nygren this summer. Club record signing, Arne Engels, and Portuguese youth international standout, Paulo Bernardo, are having to sit on the bench right now.
That has not stopped Celtic from being linked with another Premier League midfielder. Or continue to be linked with him, to be exact. That's because the Andy Irving links go back to last year.
The rumours have been around for a while and have not cropped out of nowhere this summer. He looks almost certain to leave West Ham United before this window closes, as he does not seem to have much of a place in Graham Potter's plans right now. There is a major update on the entire situation.
'Second bid' - West Ham insider drops Andy Irving to Celtic news
As reported by Claret & Hugh, Celtic and Rangers are said to be seriously interested in Irving, and a transfer source revealed to them that a second bid is expected:
"There’s a lot of interest but only one bid so far, and that was last month. I think they’ll get another offer soon."
There has already been a decent bit of talk about West Ham receiving an offer for Irving, although that fell below their expectations. Now, it remains to be seen when the second bid arrives.
It is worth pointing out that it is not clear who had made that first bid. Celtic might, or might not have. We do not know at this point in time. Let's see how this situation transpires.
