Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti has received fresh criticism despite not starting either of the last two games. The Bhoys have struggled to get consistent performances on the left side, and Tounekti has played a significant role in that.
The winger has technical ability, there is no doubting that, but he lacks the consistent ability - or perhaps willingness - to beat his man in the final third and deliver a good cross or shot.
Tounekti seems to beat players elsewhere, but when he reaches the last third, he too often turns inside, and when he does get space, his final product is usually poor.
The Bhoys need attackers who are willing to keep knocking on the door, even if they lose the ball here and there, and quite frankly, fans would prefer to see Tounekti lose the ball here and there if it means seeing him take on opponents consistently.
Tounekti recently had a run of games after Yang Hyun-jun went off to the Asian Games, but he failed to take advantage, largely struggling, perhaps with the exception of the Motherwell game.
Plenty of pundits have had their say on the Tounekti situation, and now former Hoops star Aiden McGeady, speaking exclusively to the Celtic Way, has had his.
"I think he's too one-dimensional, to be honest, as a winger," said McGready. "He goes down the line and then cuts back. He always slows the game down too much for me as well.
"There is some talent there but now time is passing as to when you're actually going to see it.
"You get a bit of grace when you sign and people put up with inconsistent performances. But when they're becoming the norm rather than your good games being the exception, you're not going to be in the team for very long."
Tounekti needs to offer something different
Tounekti must know by now that he has to offer something different if he wants any chance of playing regularly Jota is nearing full fitness, while Yang is close to returning from a hamstring issue.
Even Callum Osmand has impressed on the left side, and it's difficult to see Tounekti locking down that left side any time soon unless he offers something different. Currently, he is being criticised weekly and consistently bringing the same offering to the table.
It's time for the winger to be brave if he wants to save his Celtic career.
