A large section of the fanbase wanted to see Wilfried Nancy get sacked after the Scottish League Cup final defeat at the hands of St Mirren. That was not done and unsurprisingly so. Sacking the Frenchman now would be admitting that appointing him was a colossal error. The Celtic board won't be too keen to do that.

Yet, there appears to be a feeling of inevitability about Nancy's sacking. It might happen tonight, tomorrow, a week, a month or a year from now. But it feels like it is bound to happen.

Nancy looks like a manager completely out of depth, who is not only not good enough but also completely unaware of what is expected of him in this job. The least he could have done so far is create a bond with the fans. Instead, his comments have been viewed as 'arrogant', and he has alienated a large section of the fanbase already.

In many ways, the upcoming game against Dundee United is a must-win for Nancy. But there is some bad news for Celtic heading into the matchup.

The Scottish FA have announced that John Beaton will referee the upcoming game between Dundee United and Celtic. His two assistants will be David McGeachie and Scott Anderson. Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duty, being assisted by Gary Hilland.

It would be safe to say that Celtic fans will be hoping that there are no controversial refereeing decisions on the day. May the best team win, whoever that may be.

Remarkably, a lot of fans won't be confident of even getting a draw in this one. Celtic have looked completely clueless since the arrival of Nancy as manager, as all the good work of Martin O'Neill has swiftly been undone. The big question is, will another defeat be enough to convince the board that it is time to sack the manager? Or will they continue to stick with them, hoping that he somehow turns it around and they are proven right?
