Celtic bounced back in midweek with a comeback 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in the Europa League. The result might have been what Brendan Rodgers was looking for but the manager was given plenty to worry about as well. Three regular starters in the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston and Kelechi Iheanacho picked up injuries that are expected to keep them out for a while.
That is the last thing that Celtic needed at this point. They are struggling for form already. And now, they will be without some of their most vital players, which is only going to make it tougher for them to turn it around.
On top of that, their next game is against table toppers Hearts. They are five points ahead of Celtic. It is not hard to understand why the Hoops cannot afford to let that gap grow further.
So, Celtic will be looking to win away at Tynecastle Park this weekend. But even in the worst-case scenario, they will need to pull off a draw. Rodgers' side simply cannot afford a defeat.
Scottish FA make official Hearts vs Celtic announcement
Of course, when it comes to matches like this, a few eyes are always on the officials. According to the Scottish FA's website, Steven McLean will referee this game. He will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and David Roome. Andrew Dallas will be on VAR duty with David Dickinson assisting him.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Celtic. They will know the importance of this game. It could very well be the most important one of this league season.
One can only hope that the officials do not end up making any controversial decisions on the day. Games of this magnitude need to be decided by the players on the pitch.
