Let's be honest, Celtic fans will want to see Russell Martin remain as the manager of the Rangers for as long as possible. From what we have seen so far this season, he simply does not look capable of guiding the Ibrox club to any significant success, which is exactly what the Scottish champions will want.
This weekend, the Rangers ended their winless streak in the league. After failing to win any of their first five games, a 94th-minute goal from Max Aarons secured Premiership victory for the first time in the 49ers era.
It has always been claimed that the Rangers are reluctant to part ways with Martin this early in the season, even though their fans seem to be convinced that the time has to come to show him the exit door. And one would imagine that this win earns him some more time in the Ibrox hot seat.
Martin's comments after the game appear to suggest that the club are keeping their patience with the process for now. As reported by Sky Sports, he said:
"Whilst everyone is probably feeling a bit frustrated and all that stuff, I think there's an acceptance that as people that have run football clubs and sports teams for a very long time, that sometimes things can take a bit of time to change and to get to where you want to get to.
"It's not always going to happen overnight."
Russell Martin confirms news Celtic fans will absolutely love
To be very honest, there is a feeling of inevitability around the situation of Martin. It feels like he will eventually be sacked for sure. But when will that be? That is the question that the Rangers supporters will want to know the answer to.
There was the same inevitability around Philippe Clement, Mick Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst before this. But in those instances, they had already spent some time in the Ibrox hot seat before things started to go south. For Martin, it has been a downward trajectory straight out of the gates.
Let's see what the future holds for Martin. Of course, Celtic cannot waste too much time thinking about the goings on at Ibrox because they have plenty of problems of their own, having fallen behind Hearts in the title race.
