Former Celtic star Reo Hatate has dropped a strangely timed statement on his move to Burnley, which happened weeks ago. Hatate joined Burnley on a £6.5million deal, and he and his new team have had a tough time of things of late.
Hatate and his new side are bottom of the Championship table after six games, picking up only four points so far. The Clarets will be expected to turn things around, given the quality of their squad, but new boss Nicky Hayen is already under pressure.
Hatate made it clear he wanted a new challenge this summer, and he was hoping for a move down South, which he ultimately got, although it wasn't the Premier League move he seemed to be holding out for.
The move to Burnley was confirmed just under a month ago, but strangely, Hatate has taken to social media to effectively confirm the move himself.
"Hi Clarets family. It's been a bit, but I wanted to share the news of my move in my own words," he said.
"First of all, I'm truly honoured to be part of Burnley FC, a club with such a rich and proud history. "I'm enjoying every day playing in a top-class environment."
I'll keep challenging myself to improve and go to the next level, no matter what. A new journey starts here. I'm really looking forward to fighting for this club and my teammates, together with all of you amazing supporters. Let's go together."
A strange one from Hatate, who is weeks into his time at the club and could have posted something throughout that time.
Hatate was popular at Celtic overall, even if things soured a little with his bid to leave the club towards the end. The Japan international put in some fine seasons for the Bhoys and was regularly among the club's best players with the exception of his final campaign. He will be remembered for those good campaigns.
