Over the last few days, it looked like a large section of Rangers fans were convinced that Kevin Muscat was the solution to the club's problems and would help them go past Celtic in the title race. He did have a pretty strong record in management, having delivered silverware in China, Australia and Japan. But would it have worked in Scotland? Well, it looks like we are not going to find that out anytime soon.

That is because Muscat has become the latest manager to turn down the job. It began with reports emerging that Sean Dyche was not interested, followed by Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl rejecting the chance. Now, the Australian joins that quickly growing list of managers.

It remains to be seen who the Rangers turn their attention to next. On the other hand, there seems to be some insight into why Muscat turned down the opportunity to return to his former club.

As reported by Ben Jacobs, Muscat had second thoughts on his fit within the recruitment model. Although Rangers sources insist that the Australian wishing to finish the Chinese Super League season presented a stumbling block, he wanted more control in the market if he joined.

Also, it is believed that Muscat had made it clear from the start that he wanted to see out the Chinese league season. So, why would present a stumbling block now?

One thing is very clear though, the Rangers are having a very tough time when it comes to attracting managers. Let's see if that changes anytime soon.

Also, was this the reason previous managers turned the job down as well? One certainly has to wonder that. And also, how many more candidates are left in this race to become the Ibrox boss?
