Real reason Callum McGregor was dropped from Celtic squad
Callum McGregor has been in tremendous form this season. Not only has he been instrumental from the middle of the park but he has also found his touch in front of goal, something that he had not seen in a while from him. It looks like retiring from the Scotland national team has freed him up a bit to give it his all for Celtic, knowing that he will get rest during the international breaks.
After a solid result against Atalanta in midweek away in Bergamo, Celtic had another important game at the weekend. They went away to Fir Park, a ground where Brendan Rodgers does not have a particularly good record, to face Motherwell.
With Aberdeen winning, and going three points clear, earlier in the weekend, the pressure was on Celtic to get a positive result at Fir Park. Interestingly, not only was McGregor left out of the starting XI but the matchday squad altogether.
As a result, many fans were worried whether the captain had picked up an injury or not. And as it turns out, he does seem to be dealing with an issue but it does not sound like anything serious judging from Rodgers' comments.
Real reason Callum McGregor was dropped from Celtic squad
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Rodgers told Sky Sports about the situation of McGregor:
"He just felt a little bit in his adductor yesterday. He’s obviously played so many games, so many minutes and we don’t really want to take the risk of that.
“So hence the reason why he misses out today."
One can only hope that the abductor issue is nothing serious for McGregor and is back on the pitch from the next game. He is very important to this team, especially in the big games.
Celtic have been helped by the fact that a number of their midfielders are in good form right now. In Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan, they have two who can come off the bench and seamlessly take anyone's spot in the starting XI.
