RB Leipzig suffer major injury blow for Celtic game
Celtic restored some positivity around their Champions League campaign in midweek, thanks to a 0-0 draw against Atalanta away in Bergamo. It is not often that you find Hoops fans happy with sharing points. But considering the level of the opposition, and their 7-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in their previous outing in the competition, this was certainly a result they were satisfied, if not happy, with.
Things do not get any easier for Celtic though. Their next test in the Champions League will be a home game against RB Leipzig.
Celtic faced RB Leipzig in the group stage of the Champions League a couple of years back. They lost on both those occasions.
Of course, this is a different RB Leipzig team. They no longer have players like Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner. But they are still one of the best in world football. Do not be fooled by the fact that they are yet to pick up a point after three Champions League games. Those matches were Liverpool, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
RB Leipzig suffer major injury blow for Celtic game
There is some bad news for RB Leipzig heading into their game against Celtic though. As reported by Reuters, Xavi Simons will be out for several weeks after suffering a ligament injury in his left ankle during their game against Liverpool, the Bundesliga club said.
Simons' injury is believed to have taken place after a collision with Andrew Robertson. And he is not expected to recover in time to take on Celtic.
Of course, it is never nice to see a player get injured. We can only wish him the speediest of recoveries. But one cannot deny that Simons not being on the pitch is a boost to Celtic's chances of getting a result against RB Leipzig.
