For weeks, we have seen the Rangers being linked with a number of managers, as they try to find someone capable of competing with Celtic. Names like Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard, Marco Rose, Sean Dyche and quite a few others have been brought up. But now, it appears that the club are on the verge of making an appointment not many would have seen coming.

The club are believed to be on the verge of a takeover by a US consortium. Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to bridge the gap that exists between the two clubs right now.

This season has been the perfect showcase of that gap. Even though the Rangers have found some success in derbies, overall, they are once again set to finish without a single trophy. On the other hand, Celtic are closing in on another treble, with a Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen coming up later this month.

So, who do the Ibrox club think is capable of competing with this Celtic team? As reported by AS, Davide Ancelotti is close to joining the Rangers.

That's a famous surname, that is for sure. He is the son of Carlo Ancelotti and has been part of his coaching team at Real Madrid.

But it looks like Davide could be looking to start his solo career with his father on the verge of leaving Real Madrid and taking up the Brazil national team job. Let's see how things play out.

Of course, if the Rangers do end up bringing him in, they would be getting a highly-rated coach but without much experience when it comes to managing. So, it would be a risky appointment for them, that is for sure, and one that won't scare Celtic.
